Map of Approach to Jerusalem

Below is the same map as last week showing Jesus' travels on his last journey to Jerusalem. You'll see the places mentioned in Mark 11.

Jesus Approaches Jerusalem - The Bible Journey

Jerusalem from Mount of Olives

Below are two views of Temple Mount and the city of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives. This is the view that Jesus and his disciples would have seen on their approach into the city. The Temple in their day would have stood even taller than the golden Dome of the Rock and would have been even more prominent in a city that was much smaller and less built up than the modern city.

This is also the location and timing of Luke 19 when he mentions Jesus weeping over the city.

41 “And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42 saying, 41 And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42 saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44 and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

The Fig Tree

Below you'll see pictures of green figs growing on a fig tree on the Mount of Olives. This is in a similar location to where Jesus would have cursed the fig tree while overlooking the city of Jerusalem and Temple Mount.
